Computerlovers Take Up The Challenge

Wednesday 16th September 2009

Manchester digital marketing agency Code Computerlove has completed the first in a series of charity challenges as part of its fundraising for Byte Night, which will see company staff – including CEO Tony Foggett and MD Andrew Davenport - sleeping under the stars in aid of homeless young people.

This weekend four of its team took part in the First Monster Challenge Duathlon, organised by one of the agency’s clients First Group. The national event involved running and cycling 120km around the shores of Loch Ness in Scotland.

The ‘creatively’ named Code Computerlove Trains team (Code is the digital marketing agency for First TransPennine Express!) came 46th out of 275 teams. Earlier this year the team won the Manchester Mini Monster Duathlon to give them free entry in the national event.

The team consisted of (in photo from L-R) developer Dave Wyatt, user experience architect Jen Williams, developer Viv Slack and head of SEO Tim Hill. Jen Williams said: “Viv, Tim and Dave all regularly race in this type of event, including triathlons, and are really good at it. For me, I’ve been running for a while but this was my first duathlon – it inspired me to buy a bike and start cycling for the first time since I was 15! It’s was a fantastic event and we’re really proud to have done so well.”

This was the first in a series of fundraising efforts by the agency in a bid to raise as much money as they can for Byte Night’s chosen charity Action For Children, which last year received more than £40,000 from the event.

Budding chefs among Code’s team are also holding a number of cookery clubs putting on lunch for their colleagues in return for donations. A flaming hot chilli is being served up next week.

Code CEO Tony Foggett is laying down the gauntlet to other agencies in the region to get involved and raise more money than them. He said: “The chance of sleeping rough with the Code team must be incentive enough for people to get involved in Byte Night, but if not then we hope that our fellow digitalists and marketers in the region will support our efforts by making a donation viahttp://www.justgiving.com/Codesleepout

Code Computerlove also supports domestic violence charity Refuge with pro bono digital marketing and design.

Byte Night takes place on 2nd October. http://www.bytenight.org.uk/
