Course Description

The multidisciplinary BA (Hons) Design Crafts course, offers students the opportunity to develop creative and technical skills in three disciplines, textiles, metals and ceramics. An independent working ethos is encouraged, together with the development of a personal creative ‘voice' through the innovative use of materials and techniques.

The programme is taught by a range of experienced artists/ makers, in specialist workshops and dedicated studio spaces, with the aim of nurturing, developing and challenging students.

The course encourages a breadth of approach. Computer aided design, drawing and personal research combined with the acquisition of practical skills underpin the programme.

Throughout the programme, the study of design history and contemporary practice extends students' understanding and supports practical work. Professional practice is developed through lectures and seminars, together with a series of live projects and exhibitions. The programme equips graduates for a range of creative careers, or postgraduate study.
